The Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge
SPCK is a UK registered charity (number 231144). It is incorporated under a
Royal Charter granted in 1969.
The Governing Body
As a "voluntary society", SPCK has subscribing members who elect a Governing
Body of trustees from amongst their number. The Charter requires that there
should be between twelve and twenty-four Governing Body members. In addition the
Governing Body may co-opt up to six Vice-Presidents of the Society.
Vice-Presidents are elected at Annual General Meetings of the Society, but any
Anglican bishop who is a subscribing member is ex officio a Vice-President of
SPCK. The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd and Rt Hon Dr Rowan Williams,
is President of the Society.
The Governing Body determines and oversees the
implementation of the Society's objectives and policies, working through its
chief executive, the General Secretary.
