Literacy Resources for Prisons
We are currently working on a series of very short books for people in prison. The books will have a vocabulary to suit the beginner reader. Content is geared for prisoners, and - often through fictional narrative - encourages reflection on important areas of social and spiritual life.
We desperately need your donation to help us develop this programme, and to ensure that the texts that prisoners read are relevant and real resources. By this means, we can help them improve their circumstances and change their lives.
Here are covers of two of the books in process.

Each takes the form of a very short novel, in which serious moral dilemmas are posed.
At the end of each chapter, there are some points for reflection which highlight the issues, and encourage the reader to see how such decisions affect lives, and not just those of single individuals, but also of those around them, and those who love them.
We shall be trialling texts in a small number of prisons before going to final print and rolling out the programme as widely as possible. Our intention is that books will be offered free at the point of delivery.
With functional illiteracy running at around 70% in prisons, the need is very great. By offering narrative books that are of intrinsic interest, but which may lead prisoners to reflect deeply, we hope that we may be able to help to change lives.
