Welcome...

...to the Diocese of Lincoln website. The Diocese of Lincoln is the administrative title for the Church of England in Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire, and includes more than 640 churches and communities and a number of chaplaincies. The Diocese works actively - with the help of the Holy Spirit - towards serving God, and to participate with other Churches in making Jesus Christ known to everyone.

Bishop enters Lords

The Bishop of Lincoln is to be introduced into the House of Lords.

The Rt Revd Dr John Saxbee has been summoned to the Lords on the retirement of The Bishop of Truro, the Rt Revd William Ind, who was formerly Bishop of Grantham.

Bishop John will take his seat in Parliament’s upper house on 1 July, and become one of 26 Lords Spiritual. The House of Lords cannot sit without a Lord Spiritual present, and sessions are opened by prayers led by the duty bishop.

As a member of the House of Lords, Bishop John intends to be a spokesperson for Lincolnshire, with a particular emphasis on issues of flood defences and food security. He will also make medical, social and economic ethics his particular concern.

“There are only two other peers from Lincolnshire sitting in the Lords, so I will relish the opportunity to make the issues of the county heard,” said Bishop John.

“I will also seek to represent the opinions of all faith communities in the region, and in doing so, strengthen our good relationship with other churches and faiths.”
