School Occasions
First day of school
He looks so little as he struggles up the high steps
of the school bus!
Please, Lord, reach down and give him a boost -
the first of many he'll need
through the big steps and high climbs
of future lessons in living!
Thanks, Lord, for being there to help when I can't be.

Start of Term
Bless us, O Lord, in our teaching and learning.
Give to enquiring minds wisdom and understanding.
Inspire us all with your justice and peace
and bring us always to delight in your truth;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Ian Black, Prayers for all Occasions.
Exams
God of wisdom and understanding,
strengthen all who are anxiously facing examinations.
In testing give them all they need to do themselves justice.
In preparing give them the diligence to focus on the goal ahead.
Keep their perspective balanced
that the stress may prove no more than needed to be equal to the task,
and in all things may they know your love for them
which is not dependent on performance or grades;
through Jesus Christ. Amen.
Ian Black, Prayers for all Occasions.
End of Term
Heavenly Father,
thank you for this school;
for friendships made,
all it has given to us
and all we have been able to give to its life.
Bless us in these holidays
and in the new beginnings that await us [next term];
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Ian Black, Prayers for all Occasions.
End of Year or Graduation
God of all time,
who makes all things new,
we bring before you the year now ending.
For life full and good,
for opportunities recognised and taken,
for love known and shared,
we thank you.
Where we have fallen short,
forgive us.
When we worry over what is past,
free us.
As we begin again
and take our first few steps into the future,
where nothing is safe and certain,
except you,
we ask for the courage of the wise men
who simply went and followed a star.
We ask for their wisdom,
in choosing to pursue the deepest truth,
not knowing where they would be led.
In the year to come, God of all time,
be our help and company.
Hold our hands as we journey onwards
and may your dream of shalom,
where all will be at peace,
be our guiding star.
Francis Brienen, United Kingdom, Prayers Encircling the World.
I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord,
plans for your welfare and not for harm,
to give you a futre and a hope.'
