Prayers for the Church Year

New Year

I don't get New Year.
Why celebrate this random day
When we could stay up in the summer,
When the evening is longer
And the air is warmer.

But, instead
We stay up in the winter
Wrapped up warm against the cold
Radiators heating
Logs burning.

But, this New Year,
May I have hope
May I bring joy
May I hold love
In my heart.

In the cold, I value warmth
In the dark I long for light
And know the hope of its coming
The winter holds this promise
This New Year,
May I have hope
May I bring joy
May I hold love
In my heart

Grant, O Lord...

Grant, O Lord, that as the years changes, we may find rest in your eternal changelessness. May we meet this new year bravely, sure in the faith that, while we come and go, and life changes around us, you are always the same, guiding us with your wisdom, and protecting us with your love.
